Welding is the most common way of permanently joining metal parts. Heat is applied to the pieces to be joined, melting and fusing them to form a permanent bond. Because of its strength, welding is used to construct and repair parts of ships, automobiles, spacecraft, and thousands of other manufactured products. Welding is used to join beams when constructing buildings, bridges, and other structures, and pipes in nuclear power plants and refineries.
Welding machines can be supplied as a complete system, a welding power source, and a weld monitor or controller. A complete system includes complete welding, surfacing or cutting machine, equipment or system including power source, torch or gun, cables, feeders, positioners, robots or other required components. A power source provides a TIG gun, MIG gun, electrode holder, laser, electron beam gun or other welding unit the required output power to melt material.
Welders use all types of welding equipment in a variety of positions, such as flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead. They may perform manual welding, in which the work is entirely controlled by the welder, or semi-automatic welding, in which the welder uses machinery, such as a wire feeder, to perform welding tasks. They generally plan work from drawings or specifications or by analyzing damaged metal, using their knowledge of welding and metals. They select and set up welding equipment and may also examine welds to insure they meet standards or specifications. Some welders have more limited duties. They perform routine production work that has already been planned and laid out. These jobs do not require knowledge of all welding techniques.
Flash Welding (FW) is a resistance welding process which produces coalescence simultaneously over the entire area of abutting surfaces, by the heat obtained from resistance to electric current between the two surfaces, and by the application of pressure after heating is substantially completed.
Flashing and upsetting are accompanied by expulsion of metal from the joint. During the welding operation there is an intense flashing arc and heating of the metal on the surface abutting each other? After a predetermined time the two pieces are forced together and coalescence occurs at the interface, current flow is possible because of the light contact between the two parts being flash welded.
Work for welders and cutters involves three basic types of welding which are electric arc welding - MIG, TIG, stick, FCAW- resistance welding, and gas welding. Laser beam welding, electron beam welding and inertia welding are fairly new to the field and are likely to become more common as the cost for these new technologies decreases.
Resistance welding machine
Resistance welding is a group of welding processes there are at least seven important resistance-welding processes. These are flash welding, high-frequency resistance welding, percussion welding, projection welding, resistance seam welding, resistance spot welding, and upset welding. They are alike in many respects but are sufficiently different.
