In other words we can say Jacquard is the name of a complex and intricate weaving process done on a power loom. Developed by Joseph Jacquard in 1801, this loom revolutionized the textile industrys ability to produce woven tapestry designs.

A loom which makes it possible to control each warp thread so that each and every warp end can be raised or lowered at will to form an intricate design. Originally controlled by a punched card system sometimes called the first computer, today the loom is fed by computer generated information that eliminates the cards, making design changes faster and more efficient.

The Jacquard loom is a mechanical loom, which used the holes punched in pasteboard punch cards to control the weaving of patterns in fabric. Jacquard weaving makes possible in almost any loom the programmed raising of each warp thread independently of the others.

A diagnostic system for a jacquard machine having a plurality of healed hooks moveable between at least two discrete shed positions, the system including visual sensing means for producing a visual image of hooks located at one of said shed positions during each weaving cycle, and control means for comparing said visual image with a predetermined shed pattern for each corresponding weaving cycle in order to determine whether or not all the appropriate hooks have been selected to define the required shed pattern.
